Literature Text

What kind of sleep invades us,

With Prozac and Ritalin dreams?

Wakefulness bouts with classroom nods,

And lunchtime jokes…

Constantly working keeps my city awake;

And drugs help to put me to bed.

Where does it end, when we can finally let our eyes off this prize,

That isn’t there?

And when the wheels turn faster,

The cars move on ever-widening highways.

And when the skyscrapers grace the clouds,

All our kingdom gasps for air.

It’s a slow suffocation in sleep,

Taught from the moment we’re born.

And hopefully there’s something to wake up to when we die…

Sleep in my bed seems so lonely,

There’s no body breathing ‘gainst my own.

And all the anesthesia in the world

Couldn’t numb the constant…

Hollow words and convictions,

Transparent suits and ties.

They eat away gossamer forests,

Tear the temple down to lay the next placeless city…

And when the wheels turn faster,

The cars move on ever-widening highways.

And when the skyscrapers grace the clouds,

All our kingdom gasps for air.

It’s a slow suffocation in sleep,

Taught from the moment we’re born.

And hopefully there’s something to wake up to when we die…

All of our life seems a fit of R.E.M.;

I just can’t wait to wake up…

Sometimes it seems, it’s nothing but dreams…

Somethin made in spare time-
